L59 morning check with a view
A little morning check of the ladder this Saturday, flow and lube the waterway; and enjoying the view on this Spring morning! The view centered in the distance is the "Eagle's Nest" and the far end of CC Delta. American Eagle turboprops stage at the "Eagle's Nest" where buses ferry their passengers in and out. The buildings at the west end(right side) of CC Delta are going to be the new AA baggage shed and the Gate(s) for American Eagle. Photos taken 4/24/2010.

Automatic People Mover
We had a familiarization with the APM along Delta Concourse. These photos are from the roof of the APM station; looking out along the old B & C concourse locations and taxiway November & the tracks of the APM. The thing about this spot is the difficulty of getting an injured or unconscious person down from the roof. The only access point is the laddered scuttle hole in the emergency stairwell, try getting a backboarded 200+ lb. patient down that way!

737 evac drill
We got to drill with the emergency slide on a 737 while it was getting serviced at the American Airlines Hanger. Reviewed deployment, facilitating exit from slide and removal from airframe. I actually got to deploy it from inside and "christen" it with a slide down. Once removed from airframe, the slide can be used as a life raft! Photo taken 1/07/2010.

Airfield View from L59
Another view from the extended tip of L59, this is looking due South from Station 59(North Side Fire Station). You are looking directly down what would be Red Road if the Airport weren't here(note the "road" starting at taxiway Kilo in the foreground). Station 12(Midfield Fire Station) is on the right directly behind the "Penalty Box". Photo taken 9/23/2009.
Hot Drill '09
Every year the FAA requires that ARFF(Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting) personnel attend a simulated fire, the "Hot Drill". This is a photo of C shift at Dallas- Fort Worth Airport's Training Center doing the "pit". The personnel are split into summer and winter groups, I went with the summer group. Photo taken 06/2009.

View from the top of L59
This is the view from the top of Ladder 59, a 75' American LaFrance looking out on the airfield. The view is facing SE, you can see the parallel runways of 8L-26R and 8R-26L then the Delta Concourse and American Airlines hanger and the backdrop is downtown Miami. One of our frequent rain fronts is blowing in. Photo date 5/25/2009
